The Still Small Voice-Primary Song 106 or Let the Holy Spirit Guide-Hymn 143

The Still Small Voice

Through a still small voice, the Spirit speaks to me
To guide me, to save me from the evil I may see.
If I try to do what’s right, he will lead me thru the night,
Direct me, protect me, and give my soul his light.
Listen, listen. The Holy Ghost will whisper.
Listen, listen to the still small voice.

Let the Holy Spirit Guide

1. Let the Holy Spirit guide;
Let him teach us what is true.
He will testify of Christ,
Light our minds with heaven’s view.

2. Let the Holy Spirit guard;
Let his whisper govern choice.
He will lead us safely home
If we listen to his voice.

3. Let the Spirit heal our hearts
Thru his quiet, gentle pow’r.
May we purify our lives
To receive him hour by hour.

FHE Lesson

Lesson

*For Younger Children* Read or talk about “How the Holy Ghost Helps You” (Friend, March 1990) by President James E. Faust. Make a list of how the how the Holy Ghost helps us. Testify of the Holy Ghost.

I want to tell you young people about the remarkable and sacred gift of the Holy Ghost. This Comforter, which is available to everybody, is a personage of spirit and a member of the Godhead. The scriptures explain why the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit: “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghosthas not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us” (D&C 130:22).

The comforting Spirit of the Holy Ghost can be with us twenty-four hours a day: when we work, when we play, when we rest. Its strengthening influence can be with us year in and year out, when we are happy and when we are sad.

I believe that the Spirit of the Holy Ghost is the surest guardian of our inner peace. It can be more mind-expanding and can make us have a better sense of well-being than any chemical or other earthly substance. This Comforter can be with us as we seek to improve. It can function as a source of revelation to warn us of impending danger and also help to keep us from making mistakes. It can enhance our natural senses so that we can see more clearly, hear more keenly, and remember what we should remember. It helps us to be happy.

I pray that the promise of the Lord will be fulfilled for each of us and that the Holy Ghost shall be our constant companion, who will help us to be more righteous and to know the truth. (See D&C 121:46.)

Discuss the article and the things taught by President James E. Faust. Together, make a list with words or pictures of how the Holy Ghost helps us and what the Spirit feels or sounds like.

Testify of the Holy Ghost.

*For Teenagers or Adults* Discuss what the Holy Ghost feels like. Watch “Feeling the Holy Ghost: Power of the Holy Spirit”. Testify of the power of the Holy Ghost.

Creamy Strawberry Jello Pie or Sweet Tortilla Snowflakes

Creamy Strawberry Jello Pie

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups crushed pretzels (about 3 1/2-4 cups small pretzels; they can be easily crushed in a blender or food processor)
1/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. melted butter
2 8-ounce packages cream cheese
1 small can crushed pineapple, drained (optional)
3/4 c. sugar
1 8-oz. tub thawed Cool Whip or 8 ounces sweetened whipped cream
2 cups water
2 3-oz. packages strawberry Jello
1 14-16-ounce package frozen sliced strawberries

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350. Combine the crushed pretzels, 1/4 c. sugar, and melted butter in small mixing bowl and then gently press into a 10″ springform pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then remove and allow to cool completely.

When the crust is completely cool, place the cream cheese, 3/4 c. sugar, and pineapple in a medium mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until the cream cheese is smooth. Fold in the Cool Whip or prepared whipped cream and then gently spread over the cooled crust. Refrigerate for at least an hour.

When the creamy layer has cooled for an hour, boil 2 cups of water, then stir in 2 3-ounce packages of strawberry Jello. Stir in the frozen sliced strawberries and continue stirring until the strawberries have thawed. Gently pour over the creamy layer and then refrigerate until the Jello is set (at least 2 hours).

When ready to serve, gently run a butter knife between the edge of the pie and the pan and then slowly loosen the edge of the pan. Cut into wedges. Serves between 12-14.

**This recipe can also be made in a 9×13″ pan**

FHE Game / Activity

Activity

1- Play “Telephone”. One family member begins by whispering a word or phrase to the next family member in the circle. Continue until everyone has had the message whispered in their ear. Find out if the message was passed successfully by having the last family member repeat what they heard whispered in their ear. After playing, have a discussion about how the voice of the Holy Ghost can be hard to hear if the distractions of the world get in the way.

2- Play your family’s favorite board game.

I found a story in the December 2007 Friend called, “The Holy Ghost is Real.” It is a great one to go along with this lesson. http://lds.org/friend/2007/12/the-holy-ghost-is-real?lang=eng

Thanks for the suggestion Alisha!
